Where's my copy of the latest Nerdular Nerdence?

I feel as if I should warn you right now that this post is griping about a problem that I have with a show and there is absolutely nothing that you can say or do that will stop me. This time it's with a Stargate SG-1 episode, I'm not sure what season it was or what the episode was titled but the problem I had/have with it is that towards the end SG-1 takes the Goa'uld transport ship that they have "commandeered" through Earth by means of hyperspeed. The reason they do this is because they are having trouble deactivating a bomb that was about to go off and they thought that if they went through the planet that Earth wouldn't be destroyed. I don't think that I mentioned that they couldn't stop the ship right away. I don't remember whether or not they deactivated the bomb or not, they likely did. I can't remember because I was bugged by the fact that they went through the planet in hyperspace.

I'll explain my understanding of hyperspace to those who don't understand why this point would bother me. Yes, I understand that hyperdrives and hyperspeed don't exist but I do read sci-fi. Anyway on with the explanation, it's my understanding that if a ship is too close to a planet the safety protocols of the hyperdrive shouldn't allow the ship to go to hyperspeed. If a ship comes too close to a gravity well (planet, star, a ship with a gravity well projector) it would be pulled out. The reason that the safety protocols are in place in the hyperdrives are for the safety of the ship and for those on board it.

Part of the problem that I have with the episode of SG-1 is that there shouldn't be a path through a planet or sun that a ship(s) could possibly go through. Another problem is that unless there is a path through a solid object if you were try to go through said solid object in a ship you would crash. Trying to go through a solid object in a ship with the hyperdrive activated, assuming of course that it somehow malfunctions and doesn't deactivate, the ship will only crash harder. Well, it seems that it's either crash or end up in the center of the planet or a star.

Way Creepier Than Normal

True, I haven't seen every film directed by Tim Burton but I have seen enough to know that it's safe to say that he makes extremly strange stuff. The one movie of his that I've seen and half way enjoyed was Mars Attacks! I enjoyed the movie because it was so stupid that it was hard to not laugh at. However other than that not many of his movies are all that great. Except for the first Batman movie.

I think that Tim Burton's movie Corpse Bride, which I believe is in post-production right now, has to be the weirdest move that I've heard of in awhile. I'm not going to go into detail about this really strange sounding movie just for the simple reason that the best words that describe it are creepy and sick. That is if the trailer that I've seen online is any indication.

So yes, the overall theme of this post is that Tim Burton films are creepy and weird. With that said I should restate that I am by no means a fan of Tim Burton.

Unproductive Nothingness

Over the course of the last couple of days both my internet and cable connections were out for fairly lengthy periods. So with not much to do I have been more than a bit board. Well actually I have had things to do like reading but I like to intersperse my reading sessions with the occasional breaks of checking email and listening to music after getting coffee, that is if there is a pot made.

I am better now, I just needed  to vent. Both the internet and cable connections have worked since about roughly eight-thirtyish.

Huh, what just happened?!?

I think that I can say with a fairly high degree of confidence that one of the most confusing and worst movies that I have seen this year so far is Dark Heaven. I had my doubts about it when I saw the title but I decided to give it a shot. The reason that I even heard about it to begin with is that this past school year my room mate was on a quest to find and watch the best horror movie. So more often then not I ended up watching the movies with him just for the sake of watching them and not necessarily because I was actually interested in whatever the movie was. There ended up being some really bad movies. Sometimes laughably bad. Anyway my point is that Dark Heaven was most likely the most confusing and possibly the top five worst.

I'm going to ruin the movie by telling you how it ends. I'm doing you this favor because I don't want you to go through the agony that I did while watching this movie. Well agony is likely going a bit overboard, but who cares, right? The story boils down to the main character, who is a cop, in the hospital after being shot in the head and was having dreams/hallucinations that were of an apocalyptic nature. At the vary end the main character, Gabriel Goodman, ended up dying anyway so it only had to me wondering why I wasted my time watching it. I really would recommend that you not watch this movie. I would be a waste of both your time and the money it would require to rent it.

Batman has Begun

Batman Begins is a fairly good movie and is more or less what I expected. I admit that it had things about it that I would change if I could but other than those things it was really enjoyable. The first part of the movie mostly focused on Bruce's struggle to come to terms with his parents death and to find who he really was, as well as who he really wanted to be. The movie also dealt with Bruce's attempt at starting to rid Gotham of those who are less than desirable.

The villains of Batman Begins are Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, Henri Ducard, and Ra's Al Ghul. If you haven't seen the movie and/or aren't familiar with the last two characters, the reason that I lumped them in with the criminals is because they are overzealous in their pursuit of justice and cleansing the world of evil, that they are willing to put those who have broken no laws at risk and they simply don't care. Though there is an interesting technicality regarding these two characters of the movie but I won't go into that. I honestly thought some of the scenes with the Scarecrow where a little lame but that could just be me.

I think that Batman Begins is a decent enough of a movie that it is enjoyable. I say that even though that there were one or two places that gave me a momentary sense of the jibblies. If you absolutely want know some of the goofs, IMDb has a few.

I am...not Batman

I am plannning to watch Batman Begins tonight with some friends. From everything that I've heard and read about it, it sounds like a good movie. I will see about doing for Batman Begins what I did for Star Wars Ep. III. That is getting a semi-quasi-review up for your reading pleasure. I forsee that I will enjoy Batman Begins and no I am not as fanatical about inconsitencies that directors, bigscreen or otherwise, make about Batman as I am about directors make about Superman. Why? Just for the simple reason that I didn't read Batman comic books when I was little. But the reason for why I find it vexing for people to make mistakes in presenting the "facts" of Superman is an entirly different post. If you have or haven't seen Batman Begins and want to state your opinion please do so.

FIRE

I found out about Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) back in January. This organization has guides for those who are students or for those who are just interested in the rights of students of higher education institutions. If you're interested in getting hard copies of any of their guides for yourself, just click here and you will be taken to the site to order them. If you are a student the guides are free of charge. If you aren't a student there is a charge. If instead you want to just download a pdf copies of the guides click here. I have three of the guides but have only read parts of two of them. I highly recommend that if you are a student at a college or university, regardless of whether it's public or private, 2 or 4 year, that you get any or all of these guides.

SB's Bottom Ten

Yep, I just watched that email few minutes ago. In my opinion it is one of the funniest emails yet. I won't ruin the surpirse of what's on SB's bottom ten. I'll let you find out for yourself what's on it. Another of the funniest emails in my opinion is the one titled Long Pants.

The List

I first heard of and read the list of the "213 Things Skippy is No Longer Allowed to Do in the U.S. Army" a year or so ago. I thought that it was funny than and still do. So if you haven't heard of this list until now and want to read it, it's time that you do so as soon as possible.

Examples of what Skippy may no longer do:
20. Must not taunt the French any more.
77. The MP checkpoint is not an Imperial Stormtrooper roadblock, so I should not tell them "You don't need to see my identification, these are not the droids you are looking for."
